What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a natural way of ensuring optimal spinal and joint health. Using manual techniques, and recognising that the whole body moves as one functional unit, it aims to restore normal function, relieving pain and allowing you to get the most from it.
Chiropractic treats the cause of the problem. Seemingly distant and pain free areas can have a significant impact upon others. Successful treatment requires active and willing co-operation from the patient to change bad habits and to perform specific exercises as advised. Even the best treatment in the world can only be so successful if preventative strategies are not adhered too.
Who is chiropractic for?
Chiropractic is for everyone. We have successfully treated patients from just a few days old, who would not settle, to the oldest so far being 98, for a number of aches and pains. Our average patient sits somewhere in between.
Chiropractic can help back pain, neck pain, sciatica, headaches, migraines, pains associated with arthritis and most other joint (shoulder, hip, knee, foot) pains.
As already stated, if we deem we are not the best people to help your problem we will refer you to the appropriate specialist.
The Consultation and Examination Process
The format for a new client of ours is as follows:
- On arrival you will be asked to fill in a short health questionnaire before being called through to see your chiropractor
- A full health history is then taken looking into the past and present issues that may be related to the problem you are presenting with
- We will perform numerous orthopaedic, neurological and chiropractic tests to obtain vital information about the function of your spine and nervous system
- If we determine that you need x-rays or scans you will referred for them at this point.
The Report Process
After your first visit your Chiropractor will correlate all the exam findings with the details of your health history, together with any x-rays or scans if taken, and create a bespoke treatment programme to suit your needs. We will then:
- Explain clearly and visually the findings from the tests and x-rays
- Explain what the problem is, what it will take to correct the problem, how long it will take and costs involved
- An individual plan is recommended and you decide what course of action best suits your needs.
To book your consultation and examination just call the clinic you wish to be seen at and we will arrange it for you.
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to call the clinics where we will be more than happy to talk to you. If you specifically wish to speak with the chiropractor call with your questions and we will arrange for them to call you back as soon as possible.
Treatment Phases
Acute Phase
- This is the first stage of the treatment when the patient is in pain or discomfort
- At this stage you may need to get treated frequently and treatment is aimed at providing pain relief as quickly as possible
- Initial care at this stage can last from a few days to several weeks, depending on the problem.
Stabilisation/Rehabilitation Phase
- When the joints, muscles and nerves start to function better, and the pain as a result of this is less, you start with rehabilitation
- You will get treated less frequently and given exercises in order to stabilise and strengthen the spine
- Here the main aim is to maintain joint mobility and increase muscle strength.
Maintenance/Wellness Phase
- When the chiropractor is happy that the spine is functioning optimally check-ups are recommended in order to maintain the improvements which you have achieved and to help prevent further issues
- Potential problems can be detected and corrected before you start to experience pain and disability again.
How you choose to use chiropractic is up to you and we are here to look after you whatever your choice.
